Irritated by ageing

Damn wars

And this cancer

Oesteo-arthritis

And that political wanker

The lift that’s now broken

And fibro-myalgia

The box-sets half chosen

To pass time on the sofa

And another thing

That’s driving them raving

Is the cooker clock timer

Since daylight saving

And LBC phone-ins

With adverts and trailers

News on the TV

And views in the papers

And this dreadful giddiness

And my fuzzy thick head

The no-longer-two-of-us

And a cold space in bed

Worry filled night-times

For my kids fully grown

And sad memories of past times

When not ill and alone.

(The first evening on a week’s visit to my mother)
